Road Angel BlackspotRoad Angel Blackspot certainly caused a stir
a few years ago in the radar / speedtrap detector market, Road Angel has
become in many ways the generic term for this kind of product where previously
Snooper held that position. Another generic term is radar detector which
in the past has been used to describe any form of speedtrap detection. Road Angel Blackspot was started after research into the use of GPS technology as a safety feature which would control the speed of a vehicle according to the speed limits relevant to a particular stretch of road. This work was undertaken at Leeds University with the help of Dave Clark. Dave was and is an experienced racing driver with a real drive to succeed and saw that the technology had other related applications. Why not use the GPS technology to let drivers know about a designated blackspot so that the driver himself could make a judgement on the appropriate speed for the situation or hazard. As speedtraps are sometimes placed in high risk areas otherwise known as accident blackspots it was only prudent to include speedtrap locations in the warning system. While Dave was going about his business earning a living he put his ideas to a chap called Joe Eagle, who was a very successful businessman in his own right, Joe very quickly saw a business opportunity in a niche market and was impressed with Dave's drive and ambition and decided to back Dave in the new venture, Road Angel Blackspot, the rest is as they say history. Road Angel Blackspot have become synonymous with quality and functionality of road safety devices developed by them, with robust construction and ease of use the buying public have placed the products at the top of their shopping lists when it comes to gifts or driving aids. When their new Road Angel 7000 and 9000 comes out they will raise the bar again with newer and better technology and no doubt this will spur the other manufacturers into action as they attempt to keep up with emerging technologies, companies like Garmin, Navman and Tom Tom will be waiting to see what they next have to equal in the market place. Road Angel Blackspot decided since the launch of the Road Angel Classic, to build on their success and keep on developing products rather than to rest on their laurels and just see how it goes. If they had, they would have been quickly overtaken by competing companies and they would not have retained their position in the market place.
